This is the Master Reading List, from which I choose the books that I will read and discuss. It's not an arbitrary list. It is comprised of works that appear at least once on any of these lists which attempted to compile The Western Cannon:
1. Great Books of the Western World
Great Books of the Western World, the famous collection published by Encyclopaedia Britannica.
2. The Harvard Classics
The contents of the Harvard Classics, Harvard University's collection of classic works.
3. How to Read a Book
How To Read a Book, Mortimer Adler's classic on intelligent reading.
4. Great Books Foundation
Great Books Foundation, an organization devoted to promoting the discussion of the Great Books by people from all walks of life.
5. Great Ideas Program
The contents of the 10-volume set of the Great Ideas Program (a supplement to Great Books of the Western World).
This list is fairly self explanatory. It is in chronological order from the time each book was published. Authors names are in bold. Works which I have completed have a hyperlink which leads to my discussion of that work. Authors that I have read also have a hyperlink. There are a total of 960 works. If I read one per week, it should only take me 18 years (!) to finish them all.
Although there are undoubtedly many works worth reading that are not on this list, it would be hard to argue any of the books that are on the list aren't worth reading. They are all "Timeless Books".
